The popularity of this site is catching on. I was watching Inside Mixed Martial Arts on HD Net last night and you can imagine my shock when in between rounds Lieutenant X, the trainer for Billy Stamp pulled out an ice cold iPhone to stop Billy's bleeding. Who would have thought? A recycled iPhone as first aid equipment! In a major sporting event. Here's to you Lieutenant X. Oh, and if your were wondering, Billy won with a triangle submission hold.

Normally when I fish for largemouth bass I bring along the usual bait. Fish, crayfish, large aquatic and terrestrial insects, frogs, worms...standard issue for pulling one or two big boys out of the lake. That was until yesterday when I threw my now-outdated iPhone on the end of my line. Whammo! I'm not sure if it was the shinny (discontinued) metal back or the colorful icons but I'll be eating bass from now until they release the 4G! Fish on!

Who here hasn't had the urge to put an iPhone in the microwave? Us too! We tried it out today and witnessed a miracle. When the iPhone is placed in the microwave for 45 seconds it heats up to 120 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit (48 to 54 degrees Celsius), ideal for a luxurious iStone massage. Spas everywhere are going to want to get in on this one. For unexpected pleasure, make sure your iPhone is set to vibrate.

What are we to do with our beloved iPhones? My initial thoughts go to the obvious. Put it up for sale on Ebay, give it to my wife, do the right thing and donate it to charity. But these are amazing times we live in and the iPhone is never-before-seen technology. What an opportunity we have to use our old iPhones and create something that the world has never seen! My mind is racing. What if we could combine the power of the iphone and - a soap dish? Umm, iDish anyone? Everyone's going to want one and I stand to make millions. Screw my wife and charity. Hello iDish.

Apple introduces next-generation iPhone 3G. Who wants my first-gen?

June 9, 2008

Apple today introduced the long-awaited second-generation iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 3G. Which means in 31 days, I'll have another outdated piece of Apple technology. Hey, I'm all about product evolution but my legs are still sore from standing in line for 6 hours to drop $599 on the 1st Gen iPhone. I can't walk around with a 1st Gen iPhone! What will my friends think? Good 'ol Stevie is forcing me to figure out how to put my 1st gen iPhone to good use.

Here are the some of the reasons why my less-than-a-year-old $599 iPhone will soon be a $599 table shim. The new phone features a glossy, full-plastic rear casing, which is thinner on the sides than the current version, metal buttons, and a flush headphone jack. The iPhone 3G retains the 3.5-inch touch screen of the original, and adds support for 3G wireless networking (tri-band HSDPA), as well as true GPS capabilities. According to Apple, the iPhone 3G offers 300 hours of standby time, 10 hours of 2G talk time, 5 hours of 3G talk time "versus 3-3.5 on competing products," 5-6 hours of high-speed web browsing, 7 hours of video playback, and 24 hours of audio playback. The new iPhone 3G will be available on July 11 in 62 countries worldwide, and will sell for $199 for the 8GB model (black only) and $299 for the 16GB model (available in black or white).

"Just one year after launching the iPhone, we're launching the new iPhone 3G that is twice as fast at half the price," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "iPhone 3G supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync right out of the box, runs the incredible third party apps created with the iPhone SDK, and will be available in more than 70 countries around the world this year."
